Nicole Wetzel

Prof. Nicole Wetzel heads the Research Group on Neurocognitive Development at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Magdeburg and is a professor at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. Her team is dedicated to the development of attention in childhood, particularly auditory attention. Attention is essential for learning success and academic performance. Auditory information has privileged access to perception and consciousness, which is controlled through attention. Despite this important function, little is still known about the development of auditory attention during childhood. The research group aims to close this gap and investigates the development of auditory attention and the associated learning and memory processes at both the behavioral and brain levels. Prof. Wetzel is particularly interested in how emotion, motivation, and interaction with digital media affect attentional functions.
