The research group of Prof. Andrea Kröger at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg conducts research in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. Its research focus is particularly on the investigation of signal transduction mechanisms in cells that are important for the development and function of the nervous system. It also deals with the role of proteins and their interactions in cellular processes associated with neurological diseases and studies the interferon system, which is the body's first line of defense against infections. In this context, it examines the interaction between host and pathogen in viral infections of the central nervous system.
