Stefanie Schreiber

Prof. Stefanie Schreiber is a research neurologist and focuses on developing a better understanding of the neurodegenerative diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, which have so far far too often been considered fatalistic. The focus of her research group is on the neuropathological cascade, which, through the damage of the smallest brain vessels (cerebral microangiopathy), leads to a reduction in cerebral blood flow as well as impairment of the glymphatic system, up to all forms of dementia. For this purpose, she studies the onset and development of this disease using animal models and within a patient cohort recruited at the Magdeburg site. Based on the mechanistic understanding of disease progression that has been developed, Schreiber's team is developing new markers based on multimodal imaging, biofluids, and cognitive tests with the aim of deriving innovative prevention, diagnostic, and therapeutic approaches.
