Prof. Dr. Stefan Pollmann
Faculty of Natural Sciences,
Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg

Prof. Stefan Pollmann leads the General Psychology research group at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. His research focus is the allocation of attentional resources and their neural foundations. His early work helped characterize the brain's attention network, with an emphasis on visual search using fMRI and patient studies. More recently, his research group investigates how object perception and search guidance are driven by perceptual learning. This led to the question of whether memory-driven visual search is impaired after vision loss. In a series of studies with gaze-contingently simulated central scotomas and with patients with age-related macular degeneration, Prof. Pollmann was able to demonstrate deficits in memory-driven search, as well as compensatory adjustments following central vision loss. Another research focus is fMRI methodology, from early studies on the event-related design to current projects on multivariate pattern analysis.
