Dr. Stefan Dürschmid
Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg

Dr. Stefan Dürschmid leads the Research Group on Sensory Learning and Prediction at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg. He deals with the questions of when and why our brain autonomously retrieves things from memory and: How can we continue to learn the structure of the environment and derive predictions from it, even though we are mentally occupied with other things at the moment? Answering these questions helps to understand how the brain learns to improve interactions with the environment. Dürschmid's long-term goal is to understand how automatic memory retrieval and implicit learning are represented at different physiological levels of the brain and influence each other. This could help to better understand disorders such as depression or ADHD.
