Sascha Benjamin Fink

The main focus of Sascha Benjamin Fink is on philosophical and fundamental questions in a neuroscientific exploration of consciousness – how can we know which events in the brain make the mind feel like something to us? The project intertwines contemporary philosophical methods and debates with questions arising from ongoing neuroscientific research. These questions concern, on the one hand, the investigation itself, e.g., the concept of a neural correlate of consciousness, the scientific state of introspection, the limits of various physiological measurements, the categorization and differentiation of sensory modalities (and whether we can create new senses through sensory substitution), or how to gain insights into non-standard experiences such as dreaming, psychedelic trips, or psychopathologies.
