Dr. Sanja Bauer Mikulovic leads the Research Group Cognition & Emotion at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Magdeburg. Together with her team, she researches exactly how cognition and emotion interact in the brain and in what ways information about rational connections and about feelings enters the memory structures of the brain. In this context, she examines cellular substrates of hippocampal oscillations in cognitive and emotional learning and memory, memory-related input-output clusters of subcortical and hippocampal neurons, and mechanisms of social learning and memory. Through her work, she contributes to developing a better understanding of how the brain functions, which can also have important implications for the treatment of neurological diseases.
