During his tenure, Prof. Peter Heil led the Hearing Research Group at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg and served as the institute's ombudsman for 18 years. His work focused primarily on the function and plasticity of the brain, particularly in connection with learning processes, memory, and neural networking. He investigated how the brain responds to various stimuli and experiences and how these changes affect behavior and cognitive development. His research contributed to a deeper understanding of how the brain remains flexible throughout life and adapts to new challenges. Overall, Prof. Heil conducted research for 23 years at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg and retired in 2021.
