Michael Kreutz

Prof. Dr. Michael R. Kreutz leads the Neuroplasticity research group at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology as well as the Leibniz Group Dendritic Organelles and Synaptic Function at the Center for Molecular Cell Biology in Hamburg (ZMNH). His research focuses on the biology of the synapse, particularly addressing fundamental questions about the communication between the synapse and the cell nucleus. This includes the question of feedback between activity-dependent gene expression and synaptic function, as well as their impact on the formation of cellular engrams. Last but not least, he investigates how the nano-organization of synapses determines their functional properties in the context of learning and memory.
