Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University Hospital Jena

Martin Walter

Prof. Martin Walter heads the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital in Jena. The clinic's current research projects investigate the causes, courses, and therapy of psychiatric disorders. In addition to psychopathologically and psychotherapeutically oriented research approaches, neurobiological research strategies have become particularly established in recent years, which attempt to capture the complex system of human thinking, feeling, and behavior. Through the scientific projects, the possibilities are to be improved for early detection of psychiatric disorders, optimal therapy, and reduction of the likelihood of relapse. Due to the severity and frequency, current focuses are in the areas of schizophrenia, affective disorders, suicidality, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. The working groups of the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy focus on the study of structural, functional, and metabolic neuromarkers of psychiatric disorders. The research is thus directly related to the clinical tasks of psychiatry and serves the welfare of the patients.
