As of May 1, 2023, the biologist Prof. Markus Rothermel has been appointed to the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and holds the W2 professorship for Neurophysiology and Optogenetics at the Institute of Physiology Magdeburg. In his research, Prof. Rothermel deals with the interaction of various filtering processes and the sensory information processing of the brain. A better understanding of the underlying mechanisms will in the future also enable the development of new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases.
