Karl-Heinz Smalla







Dr. Karl-Heinz Smalla led the specialized laboratory for Molecular Biological Techniques at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg until 2020. During his tenure, he focused in particular on the study of neural networks and their function in the brain, as well as on the development of methods for analyzing brain activity. An important aspect of his work was the research on mechanisms involved in the onset and progression of neurological diseases. This also includes the study of signal transduction pathways and their influence on neuronal plasticity and memory processes.
