Jun. Prof. Dr. Hendrik Mattern
Faculty of Natural Sciences,
Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg
Dr. Hendrik Mattern is a junior professor for high-field MRI methods in neuroimaging at the Institute of Physics at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. His research focus is on ultra-high-resolution MRI techniques and their application to the assessment of neurofluids, including studies of blood vessels, perivascular spaces, and cerebrospinal fluid. He can refer to some of the highest-resolution MRI images published so far. In addition, Hendrik Mattern applies advanced methods such as vessel distance mapping to quantify vascular patterns in relation to surrounding brain structures and to investigate their role in cognitive resilience. The goal of his research is the development of MRI methods to study the influence of vascularization on the structure and function of the human brain. For this purpose, Mattern develops MR sequences as well as image processing and tests these methods together with project partners in healthy and pathological cohorts to quantify vascular reserve. A special focus of his research is the ultra-high-resolution 7T MRI using prospective motion correction.
