Dr. Gürsel Caliskan investigates changes at the cellular and circuit level in animal models of anxiety and fear through the combination of various approaches, including electrophysiology, behavior, and pharmacogenetics. His current research focuses on identifying physiological and pathological changes in hippocampal activity patterns and their relationship to the modulation of hippocampal engrams in animal models of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. He is also interested in the effects of the gut microbiota on hippocampal plasticity and oscillations.
