Prof. Daniela C. Dieterich heads the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University and has simultaneously been the Dean of this faculty since September 2020. As Dean, she represents all matters of research and teaching in the hospital board. At the research level, Ms. Dieterich early on focused on investigating relevant questions related to the study of neuronal damage and synaptic plasticity. For her research, she employs an experimental tool she developed herself – the metabolic labeling of de novo synthesized proteins using functionalized molecular building blocks. Using this methodology, she is dedicated to the regulation of neuronal and glial protein homeostasis under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Ms. Dieterich has been elected to the Senate Committee of the German Research Foundation as well as to the executive body of German university medicine.
