Prof. Claudia Kirch leads the working group on Mathematical Statistics and Applications at the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The working group is primarily concerned with the development of new statistical methods for time series, i.e., data for analyzing the temporal-dynamic behavior of the underlying stochastic process. In addition to resampling and Bayesian methods, which are mainly used to quantify uncertainties, the working group analyzes non-stationary time series, for example with structural breaks, with applications found in medicine and financial sciences, among others. In this context, nonparametric and asymptotic methods, as well as computational and machine learning methods, are used. In particular, we are interested in the development of methods for high-dimensional data with applications for fMRI or EEG data in neuroscience.
