Prof. Christian Mawrin heads the Institute of Neuropathology at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The scientific focus of the institute lies in researching functional molecular biological changes of intracranial tumors, which are associated with both the malignant progression and the infiltration tendency of these tumors. In this context, the identification of prognostically and therapeutically relevant markers also plays an important role. In particular, changes in tumor metabolism as well as the influence of the tumor microenvironment are analyzed using micromorphological, immunohistochemical, and modern molecular biological techniques, including experimental animal approaches. Of great importance is the further development of realistic mouse models for researching the genesis and targeted molecular therapy of meningiomas.
