Catherine Sweeney-Reed

Prof. Catherine M. Sweeney-Reed is the head of the Neurocybernetics and Rehabilitation research group at the University Hospital for Neurology of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. She investigates how the brain processes information in order to gain insights for new methods of diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating neurological diseases. The focus is on the brain processes underlying memory and motor learning. For this, the research group uses various approaches. They analyze electrophysiological data, derived both non-invasively (EEG: electroencephalography) and from deep brain structures, as well as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. Other methodological focuses are deep and transcranial electrical brain stimulation, as well as the application of brain-machine interfaces that make it possible to convert thoughts into commands for end devices.
