The focus of the current research, which Prof. Bernhard Bogerts continues after his retirement, is on neurohistological indicators of neuroinflammation in the post-mortem brain of patients suffering from schizophrenia or affective disorders. For these studies, entire brain series slices from the Magdeburg Brain Bank are immunohistochemically stained for, for example, microglial cells, lymphocytes, and plasma cells. Another research area is the neurobiological foundations of human violent behavior. He is the author of the book "Where Does Violence Come From?" (Springer-Verlag, 2021).
