Prof. Wendemuth heads the Chair of Cognitive Systems at the Institute for Information and Communication Technology at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. A central focus of his research group is human-machine interaction, particularly adaptive, user-centered system control. For this purpose, acoustic signals and other user modalities are analyzed and evaluated with regard to their dispositional character. This will make it possible in the future for systems not only to recognize what the user has said but also what they mean by it. One emphasis is the development of robust interactive systems. For this, speech and other input channels (multimodal) are analyzed in real time and a system response is generated from them. Another related focus is on the development of methods for evaluating emerging parallel multimodal streams of sensory and symbolic data (fusion) and their subsequent classification and quality assessment in real time.
